Taking part in an event like this can seem daunting, and it’s normal to have a few questions.
Here's everything you need to know
Where do we park?
There’s ample parking available at the Leeds Beckett University Headingley Campus for all participants, volunteers and spectators. If you decide to enter, you’ll receive a briefing pack with full directions closer to the date of the event.
When does the event start and finish?
Registration will open from 9.30am and the event will begin at 10am. We would envisage that it will finish by midday. There will be a leisurely transition between the different activities.
What measures are in place for those with limited abilities?
Volunteers will be on hand to assist with young people of all abilities to ensure that the event is as inclusive as possible. We will have access to a small number of scooters and standard and adapted bikes for your use, and there will be a quiet room available for participants and their parents and carers to use if required.
Will refreshments be provided?
There will be limited catering facilities on site with a café open, but please remember to bring a bottle of water and some snacks if required.
How do we sign in on the day?
Once you have arrived, we will sign you into the event within the main Centre For Sport building, where we will explain the arrangements for the event.
Will everyone do each activity at the same time?
We intend to split the participants into two groups – one will do the swim activity first then the cycle, the other will do the cycle and then the swim. We will then finish the event with everyone undertaking the walk/run together.
How is the swim section organised?
We will have DBS and safeguarding-qualified volunteers assisting swimmers in the pool where required, and lifeguards will be on duty. Parents/carers will be able to get into the pool with their child if they would like to.
There will be a hoist available which can be used by any participants. Floats will also be available if needed. Participants can complete as short a distance as they would like, up to a maximum distance as outlined by British Triathlon for children. Tristars Start (age 8) – 50m Tristars 1 (age 9-10) – 150m Tristars 2 (age 11-12) – 200m Tristars 3 (age 13-14) – 300m Junior & Youth (age 15-17) – 750m
We have access to a unisex changing room adjacent to the pool, but larger changing facilities are available if required. There are lockers available in the changing room and require a £1 coin to operate.
How are the cycle and run sections organised?
Whilst we encourage participants to bring their own bike/scooter and helmets if this is practical, we will also have access to a small number of scooters and standard and adapted bikes if required. Again, with the cycle and run, participants can complete as short a distance as they would like, up to a maximum distance as outlined by British Triathlon for children. Cycle: Tristars Start (age 8) – 1.5k – 3 laps Tristars 1 (age 9-10) – 4k – 10 laps Tristars 2 (age 11-12) – 6k – 15 laps Tristars 3 (age 13-14) – 8k – 20 laps Junior & Youth (age 15-17) – 20k – 50 laps Run: Tristars Start (age 8) – 600m – 1.5 laps Tristars 1 (age 9-10) – 1.2k – 3 laps Tristars 2 (age 11-12) – 1.8k – 4.5 laps Tristars 3 (age 13-14) – 2.4k – 6 laps Junior & Youth (age 15-17) – 5k – 12.5 laps
